NQT Induction Programme
Ensuring a high quality induction programme for Portsmouth's NQTs
The Portsmouth Teaching School Alliance (Portsmouth TSA) is the Appropriate Body directly managing the NQT induction programme, operating in partnership with the council. This new arrangement secures the excellent service currently provided which is so well regarded by schools and academies. It is also retains the independent quality assurance role provided by the council. Schools and academies can continue to enjoy a high quality provision which supports the strategic aim of the Portsmouth Education Partnership in relation to the recruitment and retention of teachers.

Portsmouth TSA provides quality assurance and statutory induction of NQTs, as required of schools under the Education (Induction Arrangements for School Teachers) (England) Regulations 2012. Portsmouth TSA will also verify the assessment judgements based on the evidence supplied and forwards its decisions to the DfE so that NQTs receive their Certificate of Induction, without which they cannot teach in maintained schools in England

Statutory testing and building repairs SLAs
10 Dec
The statutory testing and building repairs SLAs are different in 2018/19 than in previous years. This note aims to respond to the most common queries. The new regime for the statutory testing SLA is based on a quotation process for the works for the forthcoming year. When a school expresses interest one of the PCC specialist surveyors will pay a visit to establish exactly what compliance tests will be required during the coming year and provide the school for a quote for the tests required e.g. asbestos survey, legionella risk assessment. PCC then arrange for the tests to be done at an appropriate and convenient time by our specialist contractors. However, the costs quoted for the statutory testing SLA do not cover the costs of any works arising where the testing reveals that there is a problem e.g. electrical repairs resulting from a fixed wiring inspection. The building repairs SLA provides access to the Portsmouth City Council Building Maintenance helpdesk for an annual fee of £1000. The helpdesk is covered by six staff from 8am until 5pm on normal working days and outside these times we provide an our of hours helpdesk that is covered 365 days a year. It is these facilities that the annual fee helps to fund. Both facilities have access to a wide range of SME companies and some 150+ tradesmen and technical support for all building and building related repairs. Buying in to this service means schools get an appropriately qualified person on site to quote for a job promptly, and smaller jobs can usually be carried out straight away. The costs of the work are not met by the SLA costs, and will need to be paid separately by the school.
