Portsmouth City Council is launching a new PSHE Traded Service that enables schools to buy into a comprehensive, high quality and locally-tailored PSHE offer.

The offer provides schools with access to a range of quality assured resources, training, network meetings and advice, and supports the planning, teaching and leading of PSHE across both the primary and secondary school age range.

Portsmouth PSHE traded service offer - 2019/20

Portsmouth City Council is offering two different packages of support, which are outlined below:

Package A (£375): Schools buying into package A will receive:
  • Full membership of the PSHE Association for 2019/20, the national body that provides extensive resources, training, support and 1:1 advice. The normal cost for schools buying individually is £120 per school.
  • Access to PSHE leads' termly network meetings, which will be organised separately for primary (including primary special) and secondary school leads. These will include multi agency professional input, for example CAMHS, Hampshire Constabulary, Stonewall, Drug and Alcohol services etc., sharing of good practice, updates on resources and developments, and case work/trouble shooting.
  • One tailored CPD session delivered at the school on an area of the PSHE Framework of the school’s choice, e.g.:
  • Legislative changes to PSHE and a school's statutory duties; or
  • Teaching mental health and well-being to children and young people; or
  • Making PSHE accessible to all, including those with neuro-diverse needs; or
  • Substance misuse education; or
  • Sexual health and sexual exploitation.
The precise content of these sessions will be finalised in discussion with the school lead and be appropriate to the school phase and context. The sessions, of up to 90/120 minutes, can be delivered either as part of an INSET day or as after school twilight sessions.
  • Ongoing support with the implementation of Youth Mental Health First Aid for staff who have received the free training in this area
  • Advice and resources to support national week’s e.g. anti bullying week, road safety week, neuro diversity week.
  • Email and telephone advice and support to PSHE leads, head teachers, and senior staff on the implementation of Portsmouth's new PSHE framework (to be published June 2019).
  • Sign posting to, and quality assurance of, external providers of PSHE support and training, including in some cases access to discounted rates.

Package B (£575): Schools buying into package B will receive all the elements of Package A, plus:
  • Support a PSHE whole school audit to look at what is already on offer, the needs and gaps, and a review meeting to support the schools planning.

Additional ad-hoc support (from £150): schools buying into package A or B will also be able to purchase additional training for staff or sessions for pupils with prices starting at £150 for a 90 minute INSET session. In addition to the types of training available as part of package A, training is also offered on internet addiction, seeking validation in the real world (secondary only) and maths anxiety (primary and secondary). Training will also respond to requests from schools according to their local needs.

Introductory SLA's available to purchase

Introductory package (£150)
Schools buying into the Introductory Package will receive:
  • Access to the PSHE leads' termly network meetings, which will be organised separately for primary (including primary special) and secondary school leads. These will include multi agency professional input, for example CAMHS, Hampshire Constabulary, Stonewall, Drug and Alcohol Services, sharing of good practice, updates on resources and developments, and case work/trouble shooting
  • Resources to support national weeks e.g. anti bullying week, road safety week, neuro diversity week.

Introductory Plus package (£225)
Schools buying into the Introductory Plus Package will receive all the elements of the introductory package, plus:
  • Full membership of the PSHE association for 2019/20, the national body that provides extensive resources, training, support and 1:1 advice. The normal cost for schools buying individually is £120 per school.
  • Email advice and telephone support to PSHE leads, hear teachers and senior staff on the implementation of Portsmouth's new PSHE framework (to be published June 2019)
  • Sign posting to, and quality assurance of, external providers of PSHE support and training, including in some cases access to discounted rates.
